A sharing from Yvonne, the mother behind the inspiration of the 'worth the wait' baby romper
The Experience
Baby M was born to my husband and I after 9 years of marriage. The past 9 years was marked with a lot of struggles - the struggle to find ourselves, the struggle to discover what it truly means to be a couple, the struggle with our own desires, what the church taught and what the world says.
“Worth the Wait” reminds me of the journey the both of us went through as individuals and as a couple to arrive at this point. How God prepared us painstakingly to be M’s parents from the beginning and how His time (not our time) for us to have M is the best time for us to have a child.
Seeing M wear the “Worth the Wait” romper fills me with gratitude and gives me strength for the journey ahead, by reminding me that I have a Heavenly Father who loves me, desires the best for me and has the best plans for me. That I can trust in Him and go wherever He leads me, no matter how difficult the path or unwilling I am.
The Call
I wish to remind every parent of the journey they had been through to have their precious little bundle. Maybe they went through much physical, emotional and mental suffering to bring their baby into the world. Maybe they searched the world over before adopting their little bundle.
Or maybe their little bundle was conceived on their wedding night and was born 9 months later. No matter. Just remember that the Lord, our God has prepared you all your life for this, to be a prophet, king and priest to your child.
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, And before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.” - Jer 1:5
To those who feel unprepared or unworthy to be parents, the Lord says this:
“But the Lord said to me, ‘Do not say, ‘I am only a youth’; for to all to whom I send you you shall go, and whatever I command you you shall speak. Be not afraid of them, for I am with you to deliver you, says the Lord.” - Jer 1:7-8
The Invitation
As a Singaporean wife and mother, I don’t have much time to myself and contemplative prayer is a luxury. Yet as a Christian, I know prayer and being connected to God is essential for my fruitfulness as a daughter, wife, mother, friend and many other roles.
So I think God’s invitation to me in this season is to learn to see Him in the humdrum of daily life. To surround myself with meaningful things which remind me of Him, the wonders He has done in my life. Things which inspire awe, wonder, love and gratitude in me.
When I feel these emotions, I know that God was with me, has always been with me and will always be with me. Till the end of time.
